As I am fully aware, that in Poland we do have a lot of international pet owners and lovers, I would like to offer behavioural consultations in English for your cats and dogs (both online and live in Warsaw). You will find the English version of my website below and feel free to contact me in English to schedule an appointment, online consultation, or simply just to ask for more details.

I graduated from the psychology faculty at SWPS University in Warsaw (2016), and I am a certified animal behaviorist, zoopsychologist, and certified dog trainer and petsitter. I completed the zoopsychology course at EthoPlanet (2019), and I am finishing the second behavioral course at Wojtków Szkolenia. I am constantly expanding my knowledge and competencies by taking part in numerous courses, conferences and training regularly. I took part in, for instance, first aid for pets course or courses on diet and supplementation for animals.  In 2020 I graduated from Wojtkow Szkolenia as a Profesional Dog Trainer.

I am also a volunteer at the Animal Shelter in Korabiewice and many other animal-friendly foundations and organizations working for nature and the environment conservation.

In my work, I focus only on the positive methods, without aversive solutions and working on a close, partnership relationship between pets and their caretakers.

My private animal pack consists of two adopted cats - Majorca and Minorca, and a horse named Czarkus and the newest addition to the family is a female dog adopted from the shelter - Felka. However, in fact, I treat each of my client's pupils a bit as my family members.

About me

IMG_5608.jpg

What do i do?

What do I do as a zoopsychologist and animal behaviorist?

Long story short, I am an animal psychologist whose job is to help the cat and dog carers understand their pets better and make both parties live happily together.

More specifically:

  • I search for and diagnose the causes of disturbing behavior in cats and dogs. On this basis, I recommend an appropriate therapy plan. Common problems that I work on with my four-legged clients include, for example, in the case of cats: urination outside the litterbox, furniture scratching, conflicts in the cat group, apathy, timidity, and aggression. In the case of dogs, on the other hand, it can be for example problems with keeping the house clean, conflicts in the animal group, excessive excitement, apathy, timidity, aggression, fear of noises, separation anxiety, damage to furniture and objects ...

  • I help to prepare pets and minimize their stress related to significant changes in their family's life, such as moving, renovation, the arrival of a new partner/child at home, enlargement of the animal group ...,

  • I suggest how to safely and adequately introduce a new pet into the house, properly raise it, socialize it and prepare accessories, home, and household members for its arrival.

  • I can help you to choose a pet that will ideally suit your family and your lifestyle based on the assessment of the animal's mental state, personality, and history in conjunction with the presented expectations, conditions, and knowledge of the caretakers. I can accompany you in choosing a breed and safe accredited breeder, help you in searching for a pet in a shelter, and during pre-adoption walks ...

  • I consult the selection of the optimally balanced diet for the pet, I calculate the approximate necessary adjustment of the calory intake, and in the case of the pet's specialized dietary needs, I can recommend professional, certified dieticians and veterinarians,

  • additionally, as a certified dog trainer, I teach dogs and their guardians basic skills and tricks during individual training sessions focused 100% on the needs of a particular dog, and as a petsitter, I also sometimes take care of cats and dogs during the absence of my regular customers, offering comprehensive care at pet's home.

Like in our human life, not every problem related to our health, needs the help of the internist, also in the animal world, not all issues of pets necessarily require the intervention of a veterinarian. However, often the best results are achieved by the close cooperation of a veterinarian with a zoopsychologist. While veterinarians have their specialties when it comes to the species of animals and the systems they deal with (we will find animal cardiologists, dermatologists, radiologists ...), and in the case of problems with the movement system of pets, it is helpful to cooperate with a zoo-physiotherapist, and when the problems tend to be connected with emotions and behavior, it is worth asking for help zoopsychologist, which is me ;-)

The animal behaviorist focuses on the emotions and problems of the pets that result from their feelings, personality, social relationships, or the environment in which they are living. Sometimes the problem can be quite complex, and then we work closely with the vet or include training sessions based on my dog trainer experience to approach the topic as comprehensively as possible.

Often we are not able to understand why our pet behaves in a certain way, and the behavior worries and upsets us or disrupts the situation at home. Let's not wait for the problem to escalate, the sooner we start to act and nip the problem in the bud, the greater the chance is, that you will notice the improvement sooner and help yourself and your pet.

We should remember that the undesirable behavior of animals in our eyes always has its cause, and it never results from the malice or stubbornness of the animal. It is simply their way of expressing that something does not suit them, that some of their needs are not met, or even something is wrong with their health. A zoopsychologist, like a detective, investigates the causes of a given behavior and looks for links between the behavior and environment of the pet, as well as in the relation between him and the guardian.

Pets are quite tricky patients, as they do not speak in our language, which does not mean that they do not communicate with us. It may be challenging to put them on a couch, not just for a comfortable nap, but to ask them to reveal to us what is wrong with them and what worries them. Still, careful observation and listening to their communication usually allows us to get to the essence of the signaled problem. Like us, our pets are also devastatingly stressed, they have their own social needs; they can become depressed ... The role of us, zoopsychologists and animal behaviorists is to see the problem and act as a mediator between the pet and its guardian so that they understand each other's needs and expectations better.

Remember that as a guardian you know your pet best, so if you are worried about something even subtle in its behavior, there is a good chance that it is worth taking a closer look and ask for advice so that you can calm down and not worry too much or to notice and fix the problem at the stage of a whisper, not a shout for help.

Feel free to contact me and consult your case!

Classic animal behaviourist consultation

Has your four-legged friend started acting weird lately? Your kitten started getting dirty outside the litter box, and your dog is pulling you with all his might on a leash during walks? Or maybe

Are you worried about his persistent fear or aggression? Make an appointment for a home visit in Warsaw. During about 2-3 hours of a detailed interview and observation of your relationship with the pet, we will take a closer look at the problem and its possible causes, create a pet card, discuss its needs and personality, and develop a therapy plan. Then you will receive from me

a dozen or so pages report summarizing my observations, findings and treatment plan along with specific instructions on how to deal with them step by step.

Online animal behaviourist consultation

Usually, I only work in Warsaw, because it is very important for me to get to know the pet and its guardians personally, to see your relations and the environment in which you live. However, if you are from outside Warsaw or for some reason you cannot make an appointment at home, choose an online consultation. With the help of modern technologies, I will conduct a detailed interview with you, I will ask you to send videos, photos, additional descriptions and in this way I will try to remotely help you solve the problem and improve your relationship with your pet. Take into account that this form of consultation usually takes a little longer and will require you to prepare diagnostic materials, eg filling in questionnaires, recording videos, etc. However, with active cooperation with the guardian, many problems can be solved by us in this way.

Continuation of cooperation and modification of the therapy plan

Sometimes one full consultation and systematic work based on the recommendations and therapy plan presented are sufficient to significantly reduce the problem you and your pet are struggling with. However, when the problem is more complex, further meetings or a modification of recommendations may be necessary.

Each subsequent consultation, modification of the therapy plan, or solving a completely new problem in a pet that I already know and consulted before is cheaper, and sometimes even free, as a complementary service to the first consultation. It can often take place only online.

The scope of such further assistance is always determined individually in relation to your expectations and the current needs of the pet.

Dog Training

Dog training sessions

A puppy has appeared under your roof and you want to teach it useful in everyday life behaviors from scratch? Or maybe you have an elderly adoptee at home and you want to spend time together on nice training, play, tricks, or, for example, learn the basics of nosework experience?

Have you thought about a puppy school, but you are not satisfied with the meeting times or your dog is afraid of larger groups or driving in a car? Or maybe you need a single session of tutoring to work on elements with which you struggle during group classes?

As a certified dog trainer, I will be happy to help you in such a dog training adventure. I will create an individual training plan tailored-made, based on the needs of you and your dog. We can meet for such classes, for example in the comfort of your home garden, a nearby park, or even online, at convenient times.

The training will take place only on the basis of positive training methods and the key factor during each training session will be respecting the dog's emotions so that your relationship strengthens and the doggie would love to work with you.

Or maybe you need some other advice?

For example, you may wonder:

- How to choose a dog/cat for your family? For example, you want to know which breed to choose, how to find good breeding and avoid it supporting pseudo-breeding or you want to consult adopting a pet from a shelter or foundation.

- How to prepare a pet for the upcoming changes, like a birth of a child or moving to another apartment?

- How to reduce the stress of a pet during grooming and/or medical treatments?

- How to prepare a child for the appearance of a dog or cat at home and teach youngsters how to care for pets and how to safely interact with them?

- Or maybe you are looking for new ideas for interesting plays and fun time with your dog and cat?

I will be happy to answer these and other questions related to the well-being of pets during the consultation, feel free to contact me!

TESTIMONIALS

If I were to describe Agnieszka's work, the first terms that come to mind are class, commitment and boundless love for animals. Rejczel is an absolutely delightful, but also extremely characterful Jack Russell, who likes to put his own way first, and in turn, he did not like to be left alone at home (I know from reliable sources of several independent neighbours! :)) After Agnieszka's intervention, the situation definitely improved, and the dog just loves her! I recommend her by all means!

Rejczel

Agnieszka helped us to understand our Luna's needs, and also provided much advice on matters related to her raising. Our female dog was struggling with the problem of urinary incontinence, which was diagnosed thanks to the cooperation with Agnieszka, and we learned how to deal with such situations properly. Also, after each Agnieszka's walk with Luna as a pet sitter, we received a report with a detailed description of what happened and often with a few photos for the family album.

Additionally, Agnieszka is a lovely person for whom you can see that the work she does is her passion.

We recommend her with all our hearts! 😊

I want to thank the Pet on the couch for yesterday's visit. We embrace the canine- feline home reality. I recommend Agnieszka to everyone who has pets. We have an adoptive puppy, and we have some challenges ahead of us :). I wouldn't have read as many advice and ideas that we got from her in any books.

Thank you so much for the consultation.

Aga exactly explained what and how to do to help my cat. I've learned a lot, and I hope that the cat also feels the difference. Without Aga, I would have let some topics go. Now I am convinced that all the changes introduced will make a significant difference in the long term. Definitely on plus - the constant contact, it is not one consultation but really ongoing support. The quality of cooperation definitely exceeded my expectations - 100% recommendation.

Thank you for your warmth and accuracy in translating what and how. Peace! And of course a professional approach! In addition, I asked a billion questions after consultation and never remained unanswered :)

- Anna, caretaker of Lusia&Lambert

Today with Henio we are for the first time since the consultation, on the recreational land together with Boczek and we already can see the improvement of the relationship between the dogs. They traveled politely in the car, and after arriving they went out to the garden together, then they behaved calmly in the apartment. We will see how it will continue during the day :) So far, I am very happy, I feel relieved and really supported. To find a person like Agnieszka - full of empathy and kindness, with knowledge and passion to deepen it - is a real gift :)

Mafia

Colloquially speaking, and if I were to describe our cooperation in just one word, I would say that you "disenchanted" us our dog - Mafia. You totally taught us to communicate with our dog and understand her language. In two months, we learned Mafia's signs, how to respond to them, and support her. That helped us a lot in working with our dog and gave us an excellent foundation for dealing with her problematic behaviours. We now know how to act in critical/stressful situations for Mafia during our walks, and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel for her self-confidence. While working with her separation anxiety, we got to know the scheme of action, and we understand how to support her in the normalization of loneliness - thanks to this, we have a solid foundation to overcome separation anxiety :) All this thanks to your incredible patience with our many questions, dispelling all our doubts and, above all, enormous support when we suddenly lost faith. Thank you for adding some wind under our wings and that we have started to understand our Mafia better :) We could count on you in any situation; you dispelled all our doubts. Thank you that our paths crossed :)

- Gosia & Radek caretakers of Mafia

We really liked everything, she was very attentive to our needs, you could feel she was very well prepared and is knowledgeable, she took into consideration our puppy's health (he wasn't vaccinated yet), she had a lot of material for the puppy, she took time to carefully explain everything and make sure we understand, she was very professional, the rapport was very detailed with many different tips to address the problem but also tips on other general things like food, treats, toys, and much more and she kept in contact after the meeting to check on the progress. It really helped us understand our dog better and thanks to the material and explanations she gave us there was a huge improvement in the situation.

We understood our pets better; everything was explained so that everybody would understand, all doubts were always dispelled, each problem was discussed in detail. Progress is undoubtedly visible with small steps forward, and we know how to behave and what to do in a given situation. In every situation, we could count on you; you have dispelled all our doubts. Thank you for coming across you :)

HOW DOES THE CONSULTATION LOOK LIKE?

Each consultation is slightly different, as its scenario is largely written by the nature of the problem, the expectations of the guardian, and pets' needs. However, usually, consultations have some fixed elements that I describe below, so that you know what you can expect during our cooperation.

If we meet face-to-face:

  1. You should write me an e-mail to zwierzaknakozetce@gmail.com with a short description of the problem and your pet. Additionally, please provide your home address (at this stage, at least the district of Warsaw and the street where you live).

  2. We will arrange the fastest possible, convenient for both parties date of the meeting. If needed, I will ask you to fill in a short questionnaire with the basic information needed for our meeting.

  3. We usually meet at your house, thanks to which I can see the environment in which the pet lives from the very beginning. Ideally, all members of the household should be present during the consultation. Everyone is an essential element of your social network and always has its own valuable observations. I will ask you to show me around the house, with particular emphasis on the key areas for the pet (eating, sleeping, hygiene ...). When visiting a dog, we often go for a walk together at the end of the beginning of the meeting, so that I can observe the pet's behavior outside the home.

  4. Prepare yourself and your family for quite a long talk with me. Usually, depending on the problem, it takes about 2-3 hours. I will listen carefully to your comments and I will certainly ask a lot of additional questions. Don't be afraid! It's not an interrogation nor exam. It's a conversation that I always try to make in a relaxed and relaxed atmosphere, e.g. over a cup of tea ;-)

  5. If you have up-to-date veterinary test results of your pet, prepare them as well, and preferably send them to me before the visit so that I can read them first.

  6. Obviously, the ideal is that the meeting takes place in the presence of the pet so that I can observe its behavior live. But remember, don't make him/her stay with us all the time, especially when he/she is fearful. There is a good chance that she/he will come out on his/her own in his/her own time and greet me. My visit is not meant to be an additional stress for the pet, so if for some reason, he/she doesn't want to leave his/her hideout, it is totally okay- let's leave him/her there. Together, calmly during the visit, we will think about what to do next, so that, on the one hand, I can make a full diagnosis, and on the other, do not put any additional, unnecessary stress on your pet. Also, keep in mind that your pet may behave differently in my presence, compared to a daily basis. Please mention it to me, if you see such discrepancies, but if possible, do not try to influence the behavior unless it is dangerous for one of the parties.

  7. After the observation and interview, I will describe my diagnosis and therapy plan proposals and answer your questions. I can also ask you to do some additional "homework", for example, fill out a questionnaire or record a video with the pet, for diagnostic purposes.

  8. After the consultation, you will receive an additional report by e-mail that will summarize everything that we discussed during the visit. Step by step, I will write down my recommendations, and it will probably contain some additional tips, sometimes photos and videos. After receiving the report, you will have the opportunity to ask additional questions and consult your concerns, if any arise after my visit.

  9. After the period specified in the therapy plan, I will ask you for brief feedback and/or a monitoring meeting on your progress in working with the pet. Thanks to this, I will be able to monitor the course of therapy and possibly recommend some modifications.

If we meet online:

  1. You should write me an e-mail at zwierzaknakozetce@gmail.com with a brief description of the problem and the pet.

  2. You will receive an e-mail to fill in a complex questionnaire with basic information about your pet and often a request for photos and/or videos showing the problem. I can also ask you for other, problem-specific things like for example a sketch of your apartment with important zones of your pet marked on it. This way, I will gain the valuable information that I usually learn during a traditional home visit.

  3. Depending on the agreed form of communication, we arrange a meeting at a time convenient for both parties, e.g. on Skype, Whatsapp, Messenger .... And there we will carry out all the points of the interview and diagnosis, just like during a home visit.

  4. After the interview, I will describe my diagnosis and therapy plan proposals and answer your questions.

  5. After the consultation, you will receive an additional report by e-mail that will summarize everything that we discussed during the online meeting. Step by step, I will write down my recommendations and it will probably contain some additional tips, sometimes photos and videos. After receiving the report, you will still have the opportunity to ask questions and consult your concerns.

  6. After the period specified in the therapy plan, I will ask you for brief feedback and/or a monitoring meeting on your progress in working with the pet. Thanks to this, I will be able to monitor the course of therapy and possibly recommend some modifications.
